I mostly write short stories and personal anecdotes on this blog, but I’m taking a break to issue a rant.

This is what “taking the Lord’s name in vain” looks like. This is what the 3rd Commandment is about. It’s not about saying “goddammit” or “Christ.” It’s about appropriating God for one’s own cause. Because God’s name in the modern sense does not mean his literal John Hancock name, but everything his godhood, his greatness and majesty encompasses. It means God’s cause, God’s reputation, God’s agenda, the being of God himself. Usurping God’s person and power and import to advance one’s own agenda? Nothing could be a greater blasphemy.

He is using Christians for his own political purposes, but they cannot see it. He has not faith but himself. He knows nothing of the historic faith. Christians who love him and see God’s unction on him are sad dupes, tragically deceived, as Matthew wrote, “false leaders will appear and deceive even the elect, if that’s even possible,” which, yes, it is.
