This is a writing exercise written in response to the prompt of the following photo. I have modified the description of the item in the picture for the purposes of the story.

“David! Would you come here please!”

David’s mother stood with her hands on her hips by the front door, a pile of mail on the floor from the mail slot, and on top of it was a lacy, pink brassiere. She tapped her foot, waiting for David. It had to be some floozy girl trying to get his attention or something. But she was not happy about it. Finally, David appeared coming down the stairs.

“Yeah, Mom. What’s up?”

He saw the bra on the floor. He thought he recognized it, but he pretended complete ignorance, surprise, and disgust at the object of an illicit prank that lay before them.

“Do you know anything about this?”

“How would I know?”

“Some friend from school perhaps?”

“I have no idea who would do such a thing,” he said, thinking he would scold Denise later for getting him in trouble.

“Well somebody did. I have a good mind to call Principal Feldman about this. We used to wrap houses in toilet paper when I was young. But this is next level and it’s indecent.”

Just then the phone rang. It was Juanita, the young mail who came on Tuesdays to clean.

“Mrs. Connnelly, I’m so sorry to call you after hours. But  I have a strange question for you. Have you by any chance seen any stray undergarments lying around?”
